Disney's acquisition of Fox Studios led to changes at various production facilities across Australia.

In November 2019 it was announced that Disney would shut down its soundstage facility at Pinewood Sydney, which had been in operation since the early 2000s and was home to numerous Australian productions. The studio complex will continue operating under a new name but with reduced space for film and television production.

The move is part of a broader shift by major studios towards more flexible leasing arrangements rather than long-term ownership agreements over physical infrastructure. Disney had acquired Fox's stake in the facility as part of its 2018 acquisition of Twentieth Century Fox, including several local subsidiaries such as Fox Searchlight Pictures Australia and Fox Studios Australia.

The sale has been met with mixed reaction within the Australian film industry; while some have welcomed greater flexibility for studios to operate on a project-by-project basis others are concerned about potential job losses and reduced opportunities for domestic production.
